We've all been there before, the P-SAT's! Around the 10th grade, students across the country are given a test called the P-SAT or the Pre-ACT (PLAN)!

Yes, the PSAT/Pre-ACT...the test that everyone thinks is "practice" and a good excuse to take a nap after aimlessly bubbling in all of the answers with no rhyme or reason.

But in actuality, the PSAT and Pre-ACT are one of the most valuable resources for a college-bound teen, if used correctly!

Check out the video and the rest of the article below:

Note: This video is a great source but it refers to the PSAT as a Practice which is not correct please read why below!

Contrary to popular belief the "P" in P-SAT does not mean Practice! It is the common misconception that the P-SAT and the Pre-ACT are just practice exams! The truth is, practice is only one facet of the PSAT and the Pre-ACT.

For start, the correct names for the tests are actually....

  • Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test a.k.a. the Pre-SAT or the P-SAT and the...

  • Preliminary American College Test a.k.a. the Pre-ACT and formerly known as the ACT PLAN exam

Both assessments are taken prior to the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) and the American College Test (ACT). And, while neither the PSAT or the Pre-ACT are used for college acceptance, each test is used by recruiters for college admissions and scholarships.

For this reason, students should take the test seriously. According to E-Campus Tours here are some reasons take the PSAT and Pre-ACT and to take them seriously!

REASONS TO TAKE THE PSAT and Pre-ACT Serious:

  1. To get feedback on your strengths and weaknesses of scholastic skills

  2. To enter the competition for scholarships from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC)

  3. To prepare for the SAT and ACT

  4. To receive information from colleges and scholarship organizations by checking "yes"

That's right, the PSAT and Pre-ACT's are important and are a wise step in the right direction.

This month schools across the country will take both the PSAT or Pre-ACT. CMS specifically will take the test this week, so get with your teen and have that talk...Good Luck and God Speed on your PSAT's and Pre-ACT's!
